These four museums have together a very extensive and multi-purpose collection Asian Ceramic. Alternatively, in one of these museums, a part of this collective collection is shown annually. This time in Groningen where, for the first time in the range exebitions, not-Chinees objects are the illuminated subject.
The reason for this exebition is the extensive and interesting collection Japanese porcelain which Prof. dr. Christiaan Jörg in 2003, for a large part published  in the overview catalogue Fine & Curious: Japanese export Porcelain in Dutch Collections.
The exebition is added with special objects from the Japanese porcelain collection of the Jan Menze van Diepen foundation which has been housed in the Fraeyelemaborg at Slochteren.

Exposition Groningen in de kaart gekeken in Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen.

26 april t/m/ 4 juni 2007

Ground floor

Entrance 7

In the UMCG innumerable art work is admire. There are paintings on the walls on nursingdepartments, in studies, in the streets and on paces. In the central reception hall and the shop streets there are statues, on the floors mosaics have been introduced and to ceilings hang lightingobjects. Also at places where you do not expect it, you find art. There is an art work in each lift and even in the bicycle cellar a wallpainting has been introduced.

Why art in a medical centre?
Perhaps you astonish that a medical centre so much attention give on art. Nevertheless the art work in the UMCG has a function. They are decoratively of course, but they have been especially meant infer the attention of being ill. Art work can call all kinds of emotions. A painting can move you for example, recall a memory or a glad feeling to arouse. Art can offer consolation to patients and take them out of their role of patient. The art work gives also a pleasant irradiation to the hospital and in pleasant surroundings patients feel themselves rather at their ease. This helps their convalescence.

Expositions
Artists have the occasion of exposing their work in the UMCG. There are twelve locations available in the building. There are other exposities each three months, in the UMCG therefore very regularly new art is of seeing. For artists it is attractive to expose in the UMCG. There is a general public and the expositions frequently get attention in the regional media. In the Fonteinstraat you find an overview with the current expositions at entrance 11 and thereby a belonging indicator.

Exhibition

WILHELMINA, a picture of a Queen

in Museum Stad Appingedam.

2 July till 2 October 2005

In the 25th jubilee year of Queen Beatrix an exhibition was present in the Museum Stad Appingedam about Queen Wilhelmina, the Grandmother of the current Queen. Queen Wilhelmina has a special meaning for the city Appingedam, the current 'Damsterdag' has its origin in the birthday of Queen Wilhelmina, namely 31 August.

For years the paper corso could be seen at this day. The Royal House, the family of Oranje-Nassau, has a long history, originating around 1146 with Walram of Luxemburg as first count of Nassau. The family knows also moments in which the line of inheritance becomes in severe danger . Wilhelmina is in more then one respect a remarkable sovereign. Wilhelmina is in first instance in fact not important at all, there are three half-brothers who take precedence in the line of inheritance, but they all die in young age. The passing away of her father, King Willem III, the young age she becomes queen, and the following period bring great changes in her life. And Wilhelmina stays not less then fifty years Queen of the Netherlands

In the exhibition the history of our Royal family is made visible. Portraits of the ancestors and parents, portraits of Queen Wilhelmina, prince Hendrik, diverse porcelain, photos, etc. etc. A splendid object is a doll's house, a scale model of the town hall of the city Groningen from 1892, an present Wilhelmina got during a visit to the province and the city Groningen.

Unique exhibition in Museum Stad Appingedam of Groningen 'Ploeg'-member Riekele Prins, etcher of the Groningen Landscape.

On Friday last 11 March is opened in the Museum Stad Appingedam an unique review exhibition with several etchings and drawings of the 'Groninger Ploeg'-member Riekele Prins. Works that have been hidden for public for a long time.

This exhibition is brought about in cooperation with the Jan Menze van Diepen Stichting in Slochteren, the Province Groningen and contains a number of works from a private collection.

Riekele Prins (born in Kollumerzwaag 1905- died in 1954) is specially known as graphic artist and was well known as the etcher of the Groningen landscape. In the first halve of the thirties he followed evening courses drawing and painting from Jan Derksen Staat in Groningen. He became a member of 'De Regenboog' in 1934, a Groningen Art circle. A year later he had the courage to give up his life as a workman for that of an artist, he became photographer and expressive artist. The photography went more and more to the background, the etching got the front place. The Groningen Landscape became his greatest source of inspiration. He knew very good how to depict the peace and quiet of the often empty northern landscape.

Riekele Prins exhibited for the first time in 1938. Together with an number of other members of "The regenboog" Riekele Prins became a member of the De Ploeg, around 1950. Riekele Prins got as first artist the Cultural Price of the Province Groningen in 1951. Riekele Prins died in 1954, 49 years old.

The etchings and drawings that can be seen at this exhibition are of different sizes and have all a relation to both the city and the province Groningen.

The exhibition can be seen till May 24 this year.

Cooperation.

Within the framework of the trespassing borders project "Blind Date" of the Museum house Groningen the Fraeylemaborg got a partner museum in Germany. It is the Heimatmuseum in Leer, that houses a collection of among others living culture, old handicrafts and shipping in two old merchandise houses.

Exhibition

Heimatmuseum Leer

'Oranje, Signs of remembrance'

30 April till 14 May in the foyer of Martiniplaza, Leonard Springerlaan 2, Groningen.

Homage to Oranje in exposition Martiniplaza

In a period of more then fifty years Jan Menze van Diepen (1905-1994) from Groningen collected about 3350 objects that have a connection to the House of Oranje. From Koninginnedag till mid-May a random selection from this impressive collection can be seen in the travelling exhibition of the Van Diepen Stichting in Martiniplaza: "Oranje, tekenen van herinnering".

Children party hat
The exhibition gives a picture of how Dutchmen brought tribute to the Oranjes the last two hundred years. Among the objects are samples that are really moving. A red-white-blue children party hat from 1898 that has been worn at the inauguration of Queen Wilhelmina for example. And who remembers a glass milk bottle with the engaged couple Margriet and Pieter?

From the arts! The Groningen farm painted

Fraeylemaborg Slochteren

15 June till 21 September 2003

The year 2003 is the "Year of the farmhouse", with national and provincial a large number of activities.
In the province Groningen the culture-landscape is shaped for an important part by monumental farmhouses and their farm-yards.
In the exhibition in the Fraeylemaborg is chosen for an artistic vision upon this theme.

A choice is shown of more then 40 fine and remarkable paintings, water-colours and drawings on which farmhouses in the province Groningen has been shown.
Sometimes they stand prominent in the forefront, sometimes the are part of the beautiful Groningen landscape. The artist found their "models" scattered over the province, but more so especially on the grand 'Hoogeland'.

From Hendrik Willem Mesdag, who painted the farmhouse 'Groot Zeewijk' in 1876 in the far north of the province, runs the exhibition along well-known Ploeg artists (for example Jan Wiegers, Jan Altink and Johan Dijkstra) till contemporary artists as Francine Schrikkema and Arie Zuidersma.

The works of art come mainly from museum and private collections and besides that from artists themselves.

By the eyes of Sabrina and Hassen
Tunisian children paintings about the Dutch history.

Fraeylemaborg Slochteren

16 March till 25 May 2003

The forty drawings in this exhibition are made by two children of Tunisian descent: Sabrina and Hassen, then 7 and 6 years old. They show highlights from the history of the Netherlands from the Germans onwards till the inauguration of Queen Beatrix. The Orange family take up an important place in this series. The drawings are accompanied by prints, drawings and pictures from the collection of the Jan Menze van Diepen Stichting.

Sabrina and her brother Hassen, in the meantime 12 and 11 years old, lived their first years of their lives in Tunisia with their grandparents. In 1996 they came to The Netherlands and their parents created a kind of private assimilation course for their children. These 40 drawings are the result of that. They show an disarming, moving and unique picture of the Dutch history.
The exhibition has been seen before at the Museum Het Schielandhuis in Rotterdam and in Nationaal Museum Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn.
